Nicholas do not plan to rename the boat after he bought it from Eric Bergström, so it will continue to be named "Obelix". The photos supplied mostly gives us information on the damages to the boat, but for this first photo that shows a boat that has had loving care through the years, but still suffers from a "manufacturing error".

This problem was detected already at the delivery sailing back home. Nicholas yanked out the self-drains to see how they performed, and later at mooring, he discovered water inside of the hull that had not been there before. The hunt for a leak ended with this discovery.

The Obelix moored
Below is a set of photos that shows the damage to the inner hull. It should be mentioned that even if this error of using wood inside GRP for reinforcement and to make it possible to use screws to fasten other outside components is MOSTLY a problem for the countries where water freezes in the winter, it might be an equally seriuos problem for other countries as well, since moist wood eventually will be infected with fungus or other horrible creatures that will render the reinforcement useless.

Since the photos supplied from Nicholas are so many, there is an animated GIF-file created that will show most of the photos one after each other in the same image space.

On some of the photos there is explanatory text in swedish "molded" into the photos, that can not be removed. Bare with this!
Obelix damage information animation
This animation first of all shows the level of damage, and secondly describes briefly how Nicholas plan to handle the problem. He will use the Silicon produkt (also on photo) to cover the bare glasfiber rowing to make it water tight, and the put new GRP on it. Seems to be a good way. We hope to get more reports!
